Balochistan: Iranian forces killed six people

Occupied Baluchistan: The armed fighting, which started Saturday evening inIran's occupied Sistan-Baluchistan province near the Pakistan border, has led tothe death of six people described as" drug smugglers" by the Iranian media. Thepolice claimed to have seized five tonnes of narcotics in clashes with smugglersin southeastern Baluchistan Province today.Three policemen were killed during the operations, Reuters cites the officialIRNA news agency as reporting.Meanwhile in Kerman province the deputy commander of the armed forces Nasroperations base told IRNA that his forces confiscated 150 kilograms of opiumyesterday in what he called a motorized caravan of smugglers.The armed forces apprehended one of the smugglers during the operation, he said.Iran is the main transit point for narcotics smuggled from Afghanistan toEurope, and addiction to opiates and other illegal drugs remains an intractableproblem in that country.
